At our 10th Anniversary party Rupert Morris, Clarity's founder and chairman, gave a short presentation, highlighting some of the common pitfalls of corporate writing by drawing on material that has landed on our desks in recent months.
The accompanying slide presentation should be more or less self-explanatory, with successive examples given of overcomplication, nounitis, jargon and carelessness. In most instances, Rupert gave the original version, then a preferred version.
Writers can be arrogant, warned Rupert, but he hoped this was a trap that
Clarity would never fall into. We know only too well that we all make
mistakes. The penultimate slide shows how Clarity came a cropper with
a one-page reminder sheet composed for one of our clients!
